John Myers – Friend, Colleague and Teacher.
John taught for 38 years in total and for over 34 years at Walmer School. He was Senior Pastoral Tutor, Head of PE, Head of Year and a loyal friend and colleague. He would teach children twice a week, referee and umpire, take teams away on matches. In his career of 34 years at Walmer School he helped literally hundreds of pupils through difficult times.
Not one to raise his voice or get angry, he cared about his school, its pupils and his colleagues, and he helped numerous staff with advice and friendship. Staff and pupils are very proud to have known him.
The most important characteristic of John’s teaching career was that he passionately cared about students at his school and that they should succeed in life. All he really wanted was a Sports Hall to teach students in and for students to enjoy their sport. Sadly it came too late for him to see the dream realized but he would be absolutely delighted by what we have now.
The John Myers Sports Hall is a fitting tribute to a much loved teacher.
